Spoil yourself, not your food.
"smartpantry" aims to promote thoughtful consumption of food before its expiration date. It sends users notifications before their  items go bad and suggests recipes based on what is available in the user’s fridge.

Ultimately, "smartpantry" will allow users to see what food you need to use first, plan their meals, avoid unnecessary purchases, save a bunch of money, and ultimately reduce food waste.

Combating Food Waste One Scan at a Time

Most people don't realize how much food they throw away every day — from uneaten leftovers to spoiled produce. 1.3 billion tons of food are wasted every year, which amounts to one trillion dollars of wasted or lost food. 94 percent of the food we throw away ends up in landfills or combustion facilities. By managing food sustainably and reducing waste, we can conserve resources for future generations.

Easily track and manage the food in your pantry!

Disaster Relief Efforts

1200px-American_Red_Cross_logo.svg.png

Following a disaster, the American Red Cross works with community partners and members to provide hot meals, snacks and water to individuals in affected neighborhoods. For example, during Hurricane Irma in Puerto Rico and the wildfires in California, the American Red Cross played a direct role in the relief efforts. Using "smartpantry", relief organizations such as the Red Cross can sort through food items donated by the community and dispatch foods with earlier expiration dates faster.
